One mishap to prelude another
Yibin (Sichuan Province), CHINA – What a night! We slept on the worst sleeper train in China complete with sights of mostly men in the cabin, odors of smoke and the bathroom, and the constant sound of brakes screeching.
In the middle of the night, the train stopped at a station and I heard a loud sound as if something inside our cabin fell. I looked over my middle bunk down to the lower bunk across from me and my nephew sleepily shocked uttered, “Someone just reached in and tried to take my backpack.” Our window was opened and my nephew had his day pack hanging on the wall next to his head. A man with glasses reached in with one arm and tried to snatch the bag but couldn’t because it was caught on the hook.
Luckily no one was hurt and nothing was stolen, but this was an odd event to prelude a day of mishaps. The dawn’s beauty still promises a good day as any other.
