I found a most enticing event pop up on my Facebook feed and found myself craving papaya salad. My friend since high school, Siamphone Louankang, is hosting the National Papaya Salad Contest at Lao New Year in San Francisco on April 28th, 2012.
Check out the beautiful photos taken of making papaya salad in the Facebook event invitation for National Papaya Salad Contest. While the name feels a little awkward to say for now, I have a hunch the event will be such a hit, we may soon find the red-letter day rolling off our insatiable palates in no time.
Louankang posted a photo showing a julienne peeler shredding a green papaya perfectly which was followed by a comment asking where to buy the julienne peeler. Apparently the peeler is available on Amazon and in most Asian supermarkets. Fantastic! As I once watched a friend skillfully dribble her cleaver against a green papaya then peel threads away with a normal peeler, I dreaded my inevitable failure. Needless to say, I want this gimmicky tool of wonder!
