Instant noodles and a room with a view
Train No. K117 Beijing to Chengdu, CHINA – My search for tasty family recipes is indeed a journey and any meal I have along the way is part of the process. I’ve just twisted several plastic forks of instant noodles for lunch while watching sunflower patches and boxy brick homes whiz by my window.
I am bunked in a door less cabin on car #13 for 30 hours. When the man next door smokes, I smoke and when the lady in our cabin gossips, we all are privy to her qualms. I’ll have another jumbo paper cup of instant noodles for dinner but I may wander through the corridors and max out my dinner budget of $2.25 (15 RMB) over a rice plate in the dining car.
