Whether I am with the families who teach me their recipes or with my own friends and family while serving the dishes I’ve learned, a sense of togetherness binds me to everyone through this project. Last night I hosted a dinner party of eight and served eight dishes I learned from this past year. As I serve the dishes, someone asks “What is the story behind this dish?” or “Where did you learn this one?” I had no idea how happy I would be to answer the questions regarding every dish. I started this project knowing that I would collect stories and recipes, but this project keeps giving and I now love the experience of pairing each dish with tales.

Last night’s party loved this dish, so in the spirit of sharing, here’s the recipe for Jué Gēn Fěn (蕨根粉, Fern Root Noodle Salad).

Packed to find and deliver tales and recipes
