Suizhou, Hubei, CHINA — This past weekend I attended Adeline‘s wedding in her village, 2 hours out of Wuhan, Hubei Province. The ground was frosty, the air chilly, but the smiles of her community warmed the weekend-long celebration. The morning of her wedding, we sat in her family’s courtyard to a multi-course breakfast preluded by a spread of sweets for a sweet life of matrimony. Her cousin’s grandmother sat across from me, kindly pushing all the dishes closer to my side of the table.
