Beijing Fashionista: Spice of Life
Beijing, China — MeiLi Autumn (MeiLiAutumn.com), Beijing Fashionista columnist and makeup artist, featured me donning the ShowShanti apron for the bi-weekly publication City Weekend (Beijing).
If Shanti Christensen were a dish, she would be a rich Mulligatawny– literally “Pepper Water” — a substantial and delicious complex stew full of spice, mysterious curries, and a pleasing bite. As a traveling food explorer and creative, Shanti’s colorful wardrobe reflects her love for travel and cooking, flavored with a smattering of sexiness.
On a hard sleeper train seat, bus or sānlúnchē across China, Shanti decks herself out in Decathlon convertible shorts, tees, jumpers, and backpack accommodating her laptop and camera gear; all the while kicking the dust with pink sparkly Converse All-Stars, from CPU (The Village). Most likely you will see Shanti around Beijing dressed in a fabulous get-up she pieced together from The Zoo market, MuXiYuan fabric market, and b + ab (The Village).
“I love spending ¥100 on an outfit and pairing it with knockout shoes. While fashionable clothes demand money, a great imagination is priceless and applied to an outfit makes it nearly haute couture.”
Fancy her self-designed apron, an affordable piece of sassy-fashion keeping you inspired and looking brilliant in the kitchen. This fabulous foodie leaves us with some food for thought:
A lot of times, having less inspires great solutions. You can’t just buy things on every whim. Your creativity gets rusty! It’s like the old Erasure song, Chorus: “Go ahead with your schemin’, And shop at home, You’ll find treasure, While cookin’ up bones.” ~ MeiLi Autumn
